| Only 57 percent of the city`s high-rise building cleaners, known as spider men, passed a new safety test. The Beijing administration of work safety said only 52 out of 91 spider men passed the safety skill examination, stainless steel pin which was conducted for the first time last month. "It is urgent for these high-risk job workers to improve their knowledge and skills for their own safety," said Zhang Sushen, deputy director of the department. Zhang said most spider men had steel nuts minimal education. They also frequently change jobs, so it is hard to gather comprehensive information about their skills and manage them, he said. Industry associations said there are more than 10,000 high-rise building cleaners in the capital, but the government said only 3,000 work at registered companies. The administration said 24 cleaners had died after falling off buildings this year, compared to 48 in 2007 and 31 in 2008. The government launched a training and examination program in August to raise safety awareness among companies and cleaners. |
